FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PROVOST

Welcome to the website of the Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), Igando a Centre of Excellence for the education of professional Nurses, awarding the Registered Nurse (R.N) and Registered Midwife (R.M), in an effort to provide the much-needed manpower in the Health Sector for Lagos State and its environs. These are accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) the Body regulating the practice and education of Professional Nurses in Nigeria.
The College initially called The Lagos State School of Nursing Complex was established in 1965 and located on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi. In March 2013, the State Government decided to relocate the School to its present site in Igando. The enabling Law for the transition into a College Status was signed into Law on February 8, 2018 by the immediate past Governor and same was gazzeted in August of the same year.
With this new status, Nursing Education joined the league of Tertiary Institutions under the Supervision of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education under the State Ministry of Education thus all recognition and privileges assigned to Lagos State Tertiary Institutions are enjoyed by LASCON.
We are also developing relationships with other Tertiary Institutions to bring degree programmes nearer the people of Lagos State. This academic collaboration, we believe will reduce travel time and encourage Lagos State Indigenes (especially Nurses) in particular to further their education. Leveraging on the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda of the present administration of Mr. Governor; with Education and Health taking Centre stage, the College in its drive to improve the educational Status and Skills of its products invited the National Board on Technical Education (NBTE) in February of this year to carry out a Resource Verification Exercise with the view to grant the College the approval to kick off the National Diploma and the Higher Diploma programmes without compromising the R.N and R.M Certificates which will now be a five year programme as against the present three years.
Recognising the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, the State Government initiated a timely intervention of the i-Class LMS programmes for Students in Tertiary Institutions and LASCON was not left behind. Lectures continued during and after the lock down and the learning platform has been fully embraced by LASCON even with the commencement of physical classes.
At our last count, the College has graduated 342 Students including Midwives i.e 5-Sets with an aggregate score of 100% in the Council’s final examination. Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has once again approved and increased our admission.
With seasoned Principal Officers of the College, Management Staff, Lecturers and Non-Academic Staff (all very essential in achieving our Vision and Mission) we are poised to continue to develop both academic and structural needs to attain global best practices.
We continue to count on the support of Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Team and the Special Adviser on Education Mr. Tokuboh Wahab to move the College forward to achieving our 5-year Strategic Plan from 2019 to 2024.
